I’ve been on a major SLR kick lately, seeing as they are some of the most un-appreciated cars ever built it seems. This has to be the most striking one I’ve ever seen. Needs the 722 headlights, taillights, and front CF splitter, some coilovers, and maybe some HREs. And some Renntech exhaust (-100 pounds and +40 hp). And the Weistec tuning package.

Seems like a great deal when you consider it originally stickered for ~515k and there’s a good chance the first owner paid more than that for it, many early Roadsters went for over MSRP.

Now, none of you buy it. I’m saving up and I want it to be there when I finish.

It’s literally the best DD supercar. It’s comfortable, there’s nothing to break, they’re safe as hell, I’d say the drivetrain is bulletproof but that’s unfair to the drivetrain, it’s better than that. And the whole damn thing is made of CF, so no rust.

And, it sounds like what God would sound like if he was a lion, with a nasty cough.

515k new and it’s only a ragtop? I thought the roadsters were power hard tops

Yeah, they wanted to save weight. The Roadster adds only 100 pounds over the coupe, and that’s part of it. Really, I like the way it looks. I like the shape of it with the roof up...and there’s something delightfully obscene about a 515k car with a soft-top.

But wasn’t this built as a GT car? I would think buyers would appreciate the sound deadening over weight savings

It was kind of both, they were a bit confused as to what they wanted it to be. Or, more accurately, McLaren and Mercedes fought feircly over what it should’ve been. The top is very well insulated though, and it has a glass rear window. By all accounts, it’s more than acceptable noise-wise with the top up. Really, the car is vastly improved as a convertible...you can hear it much better, and it’s just that much more ridiculous.

I think the time for this is coming, but it is not yet. They were certainly under aprechiated

They definitely had their flaws, to be sure. But stock for stock, an SLR is still one of the quickest and fastest factory production cars ever. And they do sound quite good, and the chassis is a great jumping-off point for a few well-placed mods to really turn it into the supercar it always wanted to be. Some seem to hate the looks too, but honestly I am blown away by them.

Really the transmission is the one part that dampens the whole thing.

The transmission isn’t bad, its the brakes and the interior (center console) that are its weak spots.

I saw one of these for the first time the other day. I was outside the store I work at when I heard a loud V8, so naturally I turned my head. I didn't see what made the noise but there was an SLR passing by! Very surprising, this is a wealthy area but I've never seen one of those here. It made my day!

I’ve still never seen one up close...I remember when the concept came out and I thought it was pretty cool...and then the production version dropped and it blew high school me away. Still looks good after all this time. They do make a really great sound.

The interior is definitely a bit disappointing, lots of SL gear. It is all semi-aniline leather though which is nice. No heated seats either. I just wish it had a gearbox that shifted as fast as modern ones/had as many gears. I hear the brakes aren’t so bad once you get used to them, just takes a light touch. They seem to be powerful as hell though.

Gorgeous color (truly, and deep blue is pretty much my favorite color.)

preferable convertible top (looks better than the coupe’s awkward roofline, with the top up or especially down.)

Awesome butterfly doors even without full side window frames.

Enough to overlook the lack of manual gearbox.

If it had the blackout 722 style details, it would indeed be epic.

This is the first time I’ve seen one for sale in this color, it’s just stunning. Blue is my favorite color in general, but this is absolutely perfect. I love it. That silver/blue interior just sets it off. I love the way the top looks when it’s up, to me it makes it look even slightly more long and wide.

I wouldn't but the convertible personally, but damn do I want one so bad. I think I will rewatch the top gear race...
